Getting Started (Students)

Understand your goal

Your team is part of Twelvex's Consulting Division. Your department's specialism is developing strategies to help companies meet their Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) challenges and obligations.

To successfully meet your client's ESG’s objectives you will need to:

  • identify the resources and expertise needed from different workstreams i.e. People, Data, Technology and Operations;
  • communicate regularly and effectively with both clients and colleagues;
  • think about what you personally bring to the team and how you can contribute to achieving the collective goal.

Communicating with your Twelvex colleagues is as important as with the client's staff (external stakeholders). The internal stakeholders are the key people in each of the workstreams listed above as well as the other members of your project team e.g., your Manager and Partners.

The project brief

Noraqua is a significant player in the fisheries and aquaculture sector. The company aspires to take a leading role in the Blue Economy, which promotes the sustainable use of ocean resources.

Noraqua has approached Twelvex following a breakdown in relations with its current consultants, with a fast-approaching deadline to create and present a new ESG strategy to its board. Can Twelvex take this on and turn it around?

Developing your strategy

There are four phases to work through: Opportunity, Mobilisation, Solution Building and Business Development. In each there are a series of tasks to respond to and complete:

  • Written reports and emails
  • SWOT analysis and RACI charts
  • Workstream resource allocation
  • Financial analysis
  • Communications strategy
  • Presenting (pitching the ESG strategy to the client)

There are four roles in your team: ESG Analyst, Strategy Lead, Client Manager and Communications Strategist. Each role will take turns leading on the tasks.

The Focus section gives you guidance on how to approach the tasks. The Response area is where you set out your ideas and the actions required to complete the tasks in each phase. The Information Zone contains key information about the client, the sector and the developing strategy.

Make sure you have read through the background information on Twelvex and Noraqua. Remember, your ultimate goal is to work together as a team to deliver a high-quality strategy for your client.

Do your research

Twelvex’s research team has put together a series of briefing papers (see below) to get you up to speed on recent developments at Noraqua and in the sector.

ESG Analyst, consider Noraqua’s sustainability challenges and goals, as set out in the company profile document, and read the Introduction to ESG.

Strategy Lead, read the Leroy Seafood Group case study and begin to think about how a Sustainability strategy for an agri-food client such as Noraqua might look.

Client Manager, read Noraqua’s company profile to get an understanding of its values, performance, and areas of operation in the sector.

Communications Strategist, work through the Communicating ESG paper and start to consider the reputational and PR implications of ESG transformation for a company such as Noraqua.
