Your challenge
Your team works for Twelvex, a consultancy that specialises in developing strategies to help companies meet their Sustainable Business challenges and ESG obligations.
Agri-food multinational Noraqua has approached Twelvex following a breakdown in relations with its current consultants, with a fast-approaching deadline to create and present a new Sustainable Business strategy to its board. Can Twelvex take this on and turn it around?
You are working in the roles of ESG Analyst, Strategy Lead, Client Manager and Communications Strategist. Each role will take turns leading on the tasks.
You begin by meeting with the other three consultants in your team to review the information provided and get up to speed on the client Noraqua and the project brief. You then have a call scheduled with your Projects Director, Ash Jones.
Each of you should focus on the areas of the project covered by your role. Then as a team, pool your knowledge and begin to address the potential areas where Twelvex can offer advice and expertise.
Preparation
Watch the introductory video on the website (‘Developing and pitching ESG Strategies’), which features InvestIN students on last year’s course.
Access the simulation via the QR code/URL provided for your team. Select your name/role and then open the simulation.
You should aim to complete the tasks up to Stage 2 of Phase 2 (Mobilisation) when the Draft ESG Strategy is circulated.
Each task is led by one of the roles - the designated Editor - but any other student can take over a task by selecting ‘Become Editor’.
Although led by one student, the tasks are designed to be collaborative. The other students in the team can see what the Task Leader/Editor is typing and contribute their ideas.
The Focus section gives you guidance on how to approach the tasks. The Response area is where you set out your ideas and the actions required to complete the tasks in each phase.
The Information Zone contains key information about the client, the sector and the developing strategy. There are multiple choice questions at the end of Phase 1 to test your knowledge.
You can check your previous answers to any completed tasks by selecting View Submissions at the top right of the screen.
For an explanation of key Sustainable Business and ESG terms, there is a Glossary on the website.
Developing and presenting your strategy
You will be working through the Opportunity phase and part of the Mobilisation phase. In each there are a series of tasks to respond to and complete.
The challenge culminates in the top teams presenting their ideas and an outline ESG strategy to the project team (i.e. the rest of the group).
The teams will be selected by the facilitator based on the quality of their task submissions and their multiple-choice assessment scores.
To demonstrate your knowledge of the ESG strategy and impress your audience, you should address them without notes as much as possible, rather than read from your laptop or phone.
Do your research
Twelvex’s research team has put together a series of briefing papers to get you up to speed on recent developments at client Noraqua and in the sector.
ESG Analyst, consider Noraqua’s sustainability challenges and goals, as set out in the company profile document, and read the Introduction to ESG.
Strategy Lead, read the Leroy Seafood Group case study and begin to think about how a Sustainability strategy for an agri-food client such as Noraqua might look.
Client Manager, read Noraqua’s company profile to get an understanding of its values, performance, and areas of operation in the sector.
Communications Strategist, work through the Communicating ESG paper and start to consider the reputational and PR implications of ESG transformation for a company such as Noraqua.
